WHAT IS ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING?

Asynchronous learning is a very useful type of e-learning because you can set your study schedule at your convenience, allowing you to learn at your own pace, review and study content anywhere, anytime. However, you will need skills such as discipline, motivation, and self-management to complete the activities and not get lost in other things you have to do and fulfill in your daily life. For example, if you are someone who procrastinates a lot doing your school/college/other homework, I would not recommend this type of learning, as it may worsen the tendency to procrastinate and make it difficult to achieve your academic goals. Despite challenges like this, I believe that asynchronous learning offers an opportunity for those who want to learn in an autonomous and flexible way, especially for students who work or have family responsibilities. Therefore, to make the most of this modality, it is important to establish a fixed study schedule and also to use organizational tools to make it a really beneficial experience.

This is a strategy that allows students to access content and activities at any time, without a specific schedule or being in the same space as the teacher or classmates. It offers flexibility, since each person can advance at their own pace and adapt to their available time. In the field of E-learning, asynchronous learning is complemented by virtual platforms, radio, TV and even mail and email. However, it also presents challenges such as the lack of real-time interaction and discipline on the part of the student. In Colombia, asynchronous learning has gained relevance, especially in some rural areas where it is the only option available. During the pandemic, its implementation highlighted the gap in connectivity and access to technological resources in many urban and rural homes in Colombia, showing that there is still a long way to go to guarantee equitable access to education and technology.
